GMiA completes its 2011 Code Review and sets about to implement recommendations
The Generic Medicines Industry Association (GMiA) is pleased to announce the completion of its Code of Practice review for 2011. The review indicates that the Code has been effective in formalising the high standards of conduct adhered to by its Members.
Pursuant to section 15 of the Code, the Code Administration Committee was convened in September of this year to ensure the successful implementation and ongoing effectiveness of the Code.
The Code Administration Committee noted that adherence to the Code by Members appears to be substantial. It then went on to recommend that Members provide an annual statement confirming their compliance with the Code.
As set out in section 13 of the Code, an Independent Reviewer has been appointed to review the Educational Event Reports submitted by Members and conduct spot audits of Members’ marketing and promotional material to determine compliance with the Code. The Independent Reviewer concluded that there was nothing to indicate any level of non-compliance by Members.
The Board of GMiA is pleased to adopt the recommendations from the review. The Board has agreed that Members of GMiA will provide a yearly statement declaring their compliance with the GMiA Code of Practice.
The Generic Medicines Industry Association (GMiA) is the national association representing companies that manufacture, supply and export generic medicines. The generic medicines sector is a high value-add sector delivering significant benefits to the Australian public by way of affordable medicines and high skilled jobs.
